The Darien Library will host a geography bee with three-time state champion Michael Borecki and his coach, Barbara Ivey, Friday, Sept. 5, at 2 p.m.

Attendees will have a chance to compete and show off their geography knowledge. Competitors are invited to put their names in a hat. Twenty-five contestants then will be selected at random to participate in a seven-round geography bee. Spectators are welcome. All ages are invited to compete.

Borecki and Ivey, who has coached the champion for five years, will judge the competition.

The bee will be followed by a question-and-answer session with them.

In June, state Rep. Terrie Wood, R-141, recognized Ivey for coaching seven state Geography Bee winners, which is a national record. She awarded Ivey with a state citation.

Also, Ivey and Borecki received an official statement from Gov. Dannel Malloy in his office and both were introduced on the floor of the House of Representatives by Wood.

The winner will receive a one-year subscription to National Geographic magazine and a $100 American Express gift card.
