Girls ski team remains perfect; boys are 9-8
The snowstorm last week pushed the race scheduled for Wednesday up to Tuesday, while the Thursday race was held on schedule. Even though Darien received an unofficial snowfall of 7 to 8 inches, Mount Southington only received a couple of inches of natural snow.
On Tuesday, the boys improved its record to 8-6s by defeating Danbury but losing to Fairfield and Cheshire. DHS finished sixth with a time of 292.79. Fairfield had the best time of the night at 274.05, and Cheshire's time was 286.14, while Pomperaug finished with a time of 307.53.
Also on Tuesday, the Darien girls team extended its unblemished record to 10-0 by defeating Cheshire, Fairfield and Danbury. The girls had a winning time of 299.58, while Fairfield had 301.16 and Cheshire 317.08. Danbury was disqualified. The Darien girls' times were: co-captain Meg DelCol, 49.68; co-captain Alex Bair, 49.65; Natalie Rowe, 50.26; Fay Rizzuto, 50.56; Courtney Kyritz, 50.86; Allison Graham, 51.27; Kailin Edgar, 54.23; Kendall Kyritz, 54.30; Dana Howe, 55.51; and Kelsey Edgar, 56.32.
Two days later, the Darien girls defeated Greenwich and Lauralton Hall to improve to 11-0, and there they finished with a total time of 309.25 -- ahead of Greenwich's 310.40 and Lauralton Hall's 335.54. Times for the race: co-captain DelCol, 49.01; Rizzuto, 51.38; Allison Graham, 51.79; Bair, 51.97; Rowe, 52.09; Courtney Kyritz, 53.01; Kendall Kyritz, 54.33, Howe, 55.19; and Edgar 55.30.
The boys managed to stay above .500 but lost a close one to Greenwich by 15 hundredths of a second, while Fairfield Prep finished ahead of both teams, putting the DHS boys at 9-8. Their time: 296.61, which was behind Greenwich's 296.46 and Fairfield Prep's 290.56. The Darien boys' times for this race were: DelCol, 46.22; McCoy, 48.96; Goeller, 48.99; Collins, 49.68; Brophy, 51.33; Sandberg ,51.43; Maturo, 55.48; Clarke, 58.45; Griffiths, 58.74; and Joe Maccarone, 60.89.
