Helen B. Bestercy, a life-long resident of Stamford, died Thursday, July 14, in Stamford. She was 86.

Mrs. Bestercy was the daughter of the late John and Mary Zamba Bestercy. She graduated from Stamford High School in 1943 and worked for Pitney Bowes in Stamford for 46 years, from 1943 to 1989. She was a faithful member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Darien.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Anna Bestercy, Elizabeth Jerabek and Mary J. Miller, all of Stamford. She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Bestercy and Dorothy Malachowski; nieces and nephews Barbara Martin of Naples, FL; Edward J. Miller and wife, Marilyn, of Littleton, Colo.; Maryann Miller-Brown of Raynham, Mass.; and, Robert Malachowski and wife, Liz, of Stamford; Christopher Miller and Caroline of Littleton, Colo.; Melissa Galvan and husband, Ralph, of King of Prussia, Pa.; Lauren Brown of Santa Monica, Calif.; and, Katie Daigle and husband, Matt, of Wethersfield. She was also the doting great-great-aunt of Nicholas, Shaelyn and Gabriella Galvan.

A private viewing for family and friends will take place Saturday, July 23, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 23, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien. Interment will immediately follow at St. John's Cemetery in Springdale.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Franciscan Sisters, Our Lady Star of the Sea, 1216 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902.
