Hit-and-run outside Town Hall leads to DWI charge
Michael Shaughnessy, 47, of 117 Hollow Tree Ridge Road was arrested on June 5 on charges of driving while intoxicated, evading responsibility and making an improper turn.
Police said Shaughnessy was driving his 2001 Honda Odyssey at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Renshaw Road when he collided with a 2008 Toyota SUV, which was legally parked and unoccupied. After the collision, police said, Shaughnessy left the scene of the accident and parked along a row of vehicles located in the Darien Town Hall lot.
When officers arrived, they saw Shaughnessy walking along Renshaw Road, according to the report. A witness to the accident described what happened and when officers interviewed Shaughnessy, they noticed his speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol, said police.
He was administered field sobriety tests, which he failed, said police.
He posted $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 18.
