DARIEN — Hoping to inspire a new community tradition for the holidays, the Friends of Gorham’s Pond hosted its first-ever caroling event on the Rings End Bridge Sunday evening.

“The Darien community has not had the benefit of this kind of event ever,” said group President Lucia Zachowski, “and we just felt we could bring everyone together.”

More than 100 carolers came out to take part in “Here We Go A Caroling.” Police closed the westbound lane to traffic over the bridge and directed cars, while organizers handed out music books and candles for the half-hour sing-along.

“This is the area that was first settled in 1640,” Zachowski noted, “so it’s particularly important.”
