A series of gifts to Darien Public Schools were presented by Superintendent Dan Brenner on behalf of the Blue Wave Booster Club, Darien Youth Lacrosse and the Darien High School Parents Association at the March 9 Board of Education meeting.

The annual gift from the Booster Club includes a series of amenities for Darien High’s athletic programs. The money would allow for:

Bullpen tarps for baseball

Range finders for boys golf

Softball pitch backs

A digital display clock for track and field

Cheerleading megaphones

Field hockey and soccer tents for foul weather

A football instant replay system

Athletic department signage — a large banner to be hung on the back of the bleachers.

An additional annual gift of $10,000 from Darien Youth Lacrosse was given to Darien High boys and girls lacrosse. The programs will each receive $5,000 to support the videotaping of games.

A third gift of $10,500 from the Darien High School Parents Association would include funding for the National Honors Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the China exchange program, the advisory program, field trip scholarships, teachers’ lounges and bottle-filling stations.

“That sounds like it’s insignificant,” said Brenner of the bottle filling stations, “but those filling stations are not. In fact it’s filtered water for our kids.”
