Police are investigating the theft of $30 in food from Whole Foods Darien, 150 Ledge Road, June 13.

The manager told police that just after 3:30 p.m. a woman entered Whole Foods and returned a ceramic knife valued at $30 and received a gift card with the same amount of credit, police said. The knife is commonly stolen and then returned for credit, police said.

Knowing this, the manager watched the woman go throughout the store and saw her place lavender and crackers into her bag, according to police. She also took a piece of pizza and made her way toward the cash registers, police said. However, she did not pay for any of the items and left the store, according to police.

The manager was able to take down her license plate number and provided it to the police.

The incident remains under investigation.
