Jewelry stolen from Hoyt Street home
DARIEN — Thousands of dollars of jewelry was stolen when a burglar entered a Hoyt Street home after breaking in through the back door.
The incident was reported to police at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 30 when homeowners returned to find items had been moved around in their living room and first-floor bedroom. Upon looking around further, they found their second-floor master bedroom had been ransacked.
Officers who arrived on the scene found the burglar likely entered and exited through the back door of the home, which is not visible from the road. Officers found the screen door leading to the kitchen was propped open and the inner door was forced open. All other doors in the home remained locked.
The homeowners are still compiling a list of stolen items. So far, a $2,000 18-karat gold-link necklace, a $40 Anne Klein crystal bracelet and a $500 freshwater pearl and 14-karat gold bracelet are listed as stolen. Also taken were two Kate Spade watches, one silver and one gold, valued at $600 for both. All the pieces were taken from the first-floor bedroom. It is believed the items were taken from the home between 2 and 7:15 p.m.
A neighborhood canvass yielded no further information about the burglaries. The incident is still being investigated by the detective bureau.
