Kayaking expert and local author David Park will discuss his book "Kayaking In and Around the Norwalk Islands" at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, as part of the New Canaan Library's summer read focus "Try Something New."

The discussion will take place in the Adrian Lamb Room. Park will bring a kayak for demonstration and books will be available for purchase and signing.

The rivers, coastal waters and islands of Norwalk and surrounding areas are home to an abundance of wildlife and a source of natural beauty. Park will present an informative program focusing on details of the area, kayak safety, environmental concerns and nesting wildlife. An 18-foot sea-kayak and gear will be on display courtesy of the Small Boat Shop of Norwalk.

Park is a native of Weston and has lived in East Norwalk for 28 years. He has been a lifetime canoeist, an avid kayaker of local waters for the past 15 years and wrote and produced his book in 2009. He also has been documenting local active osprey nests for the past 13 years.

Park is retired and devotes his time to public service, including board secretary of the East Norwalk Library.
