Letter: Middle school hosts successful Quiz Bowl

This past Sunday, Middlesex Middle School hosted the Charter Oak Scholastic Open attended by 24 teams from as far Boston. Six MMS Quiz Bowl teams participated in the competition. Three of the teams, Blue, Silver and White, finished first, third and fourth respectively. Members from these teams were also top individual scorers.
With this recent success, MMS now has three teams qualified for the Middle School National Championship Tournament being held in Atlanta in May.
The tournament was a huge success thanks to the support of our school administration, teachers, high school students (MMS Quiz Bowl alumni) and Quiz Bowl parents. In addition, we had an outpouring of support from local businesses that provided food and ensured that our teams were fueled up and ready to compete. We would especially like to thank our major food sponsor Height's Pizza and other food donors, including Costco Norwalk, Dunkin Donuts of Darien, Palmer's Market, Trader Joe's Darien, Vavala's Deli, Whole Foods Darien, and our MMS Quiz Bowl parents. The food and service combined to provide unparalleled hospitality to our tournament participants, coaches and their families.
We also owe much of the success of the tournament and our teams to the tireless dedication of our coaches, Ken Romeo and Barbara Ivey. They spend countless hours preparing our children for these competitions and attending the Quiz Bowl tournaments -- all on their personal time and expense. We are so very fortunate to have these educators in our town.
