The summer concert series at Grove Street Plaza continues Friday night with rock, pop and blues act Lions on the Moon, with pop, country, jazz, cabaret and tributes to Neil Young and the Grateful Dead on deck in the remaining seven weeks.

The free series was created by town residents David Genovese and Penny Glassmeyer, who head Baywater Properties and Grove Street Plaza, respectively.

Performers scheduled in the series are Neil Young tribute band Cinnamon Girl (Aug. 7); country and acoustic rock band Chasing Day (Aug. 14); the Adam Ezra Group (Aug. 21), which won the 2013 New England Music Awards Band of the Year Award; the Criscuolo Purrone Experience (Aug. 28); DiMennaMania, a cabaret performance by Darien’s DiMenna Family (Sept. 4); the Spadtastics, which covers the Grateful Dead (Sept. 11) and singer-songwriter Doug Allen (Sept. 18).

“Penny and I are grateful for the broad support we have received over the last number of years in our efforts to work with the Planning and Zoning Commission and the various town boards and volunteer organizations in improving the downtown, and we wanted to find a way to say thank you. We also wanted to remind residents of the importance of supporting our local merchants,” Genovese said in a statement. “These events are being offered free of charge . . . all that we are ask for in return is that people do their best to support local retailers and business owners. If you have a choice, dine or shop locally, because by doing so you are helping create a more vibrant downtown for Darien, and you enable all of us to give back in this way.”
