DARIEN — Darien Police and the Noroton Fire Department put out a Mercedes that went up in flames on the side of Goodwives River Road earlier this month.

On June 14 around 7:30 p.m., the victim was driving in the area of Goodwives River Road when he noticed smoke coming out from underneath the front passenger seat of his 2007 black Mercedes. He also got a message on the car display, telling him to seek immediate service. The smoke got heavier, so the driver pulled over and left the car. The car then became fully engulfed in flames.

Police and fire responded and extinguished the fire. They also spoke to the driver and inspected the car. Police said the incident was likely caused by either a malfunction or accidental cause. The Darien Fire Marshal’s office is investigating further but the cause was still undetermined as of June 27.
