Friday, June 14, is Flag Day. Darien will observe the day at 6:30 p.m. at the Veterans' Memorial Circle in front of Town Hall.

A brief ceremony will take place, during which an old flag will be ceremoniously lowered and a new one raised. The flag-folding ceremony will be the same as that used at the Air Force Academy, explaining what each fold of the flag means. Expected to participate are members of Darien Post 6933 Veterans of Foreign Wars and boys and girls from Darien's Scouting programs.

The public is invited to the rain-or-shine event, and all are encouraged to bring their old flags to the ceremony to turn them in for proper disposal by the Darien VFW. Those who cannot attend the event are encouraged to drop off their old flags at the VFW any day after 2 p.m., or at Town Hall's front desk.
