New Beginnings Community Church and Angel Food Ministries offer helping hand to families in lower Fairfield County
Current economic conditions are putting pressure on household budgets everywhere. Meeting American households' need for quality, affordable food is the core of Angel Food's mission.
Angel Food Ministries provides top-quality, fresh foods at low-cost. Angel Food can help anybody stretch their household food budget no matter what their household income is.
Angel Food is fresh, high quality foods which come directly from producers. All items are about half-off supermarket prices. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods.
There is a new and different menu every month including steaks, chicken, seafood, fresh fruit, fresh veggies, snacks, eggs, milk, allergen-free foods and "heat n' serve" meals designed for the dietary needs of diabetics and seniors.
While enjoying great savings, families pay for their food, so Angel Food is a "hand up" not a "hand out."
In December, New Beginnings Church is partnering with a group of Norwalk educators who plan to give food boxes to as many as 40 families in distress.
Angel Food Ministries' service is available to anyone. There are no income requirements. There are no limits to the quantity of boxes ordered per individual order, nor are there any applications or qualifications for eligibility.
The first host site in lower Fairfield County was New Beginnings Community Church located at 65 Tokeneke Road, Darien. Orders were distributed from the Darien host site on Dec. 18. In addition to Darien, there are more than eight other host sites elsewhere in Connecticut in New Milford, Bridgeport, Wallingford, Easton and Ridgefield.
Angel Food is supported by a website and a national customer support center. Households are able to pay for food on-line or phone-in orders with a debit or credit card. And New Beginnings Church accepts cash and SNAP/EBT (food stamps) at the Church each month.
Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization. Established in 1994, Angel Food Ministries has helped feed more than 22 million Americans. In 2009, they served nearly six million boxes of food in more than 6,000 communities throughout 44 states. Angel Food Ministries distributes between 400,000 and 500,000 units per month through more than 5,000 host sites staffed by an army of more than 45,000 volunteers. Visit www.angelfoodministries.com.
