New Canaan woman loses thousands after having wallet stolen
A New Canaan woman lost thousands of dollars after her wallet was taken while shopping at Stop and Shop.
The woman told police she was in Stop and Shop at 6 p.m. Sept. 5 and didn't realize the wallet was missing until Sept. 6. She thought she might have misplaced the wallet but after she received an email from American Express saying someone had attempted to use her card, she realized it was missing Sept. 8, police said. The wallet contained $3,000 in cash, which the woman was planning on using during a trip, multiple credit cards and gift cards. The total value of the wallet's contents was estimated at $4,115, police said. The American Express credit card was used at a Citgo gas station in Darien and at another location in East Hartford, police said.
