Connecticut residents can now stay prepared as blizzards, hurricanes and other emergencies approach. On Thursday, Aug. 11, Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced the launch of a new app that will give Connecticut residents information and alerts on emergency situations.

Developed by Connecticut Interactive and the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, “CT Prepares” can be downloaded to most smartphones and uses texts, emails and social networking to allow residents to alert friends and family of their safety during emergencies. Users will also receive notifications about emergency news, state office closings and public safety messages. It can be downloaded for free from the iTunes Apple store for Apple devices or from Google Play for Android devices.

The app also allows users to get alerts about weather and traffic, view National Weather Service forecasts, access Connecticut Emergency Management Agency news and events, view preparation guides for different types of emergencies and access emergency resources and contacts.
