The artwork of Jeff Gardner will be on view in the lower-level art gallery at the Darien Library through Jan. 31.

An opening reception with the artist will take place Friday, Jan. 3, at 6:30 p.m. in the gallery.

Gardner's selected artworks present interesting perspectives on common scenes. His photographs showcase movement and light to create almost abstract images. Black-and-white photos evoke a more reflective serenity. The pastel paintings on silver gelatin prints combine the realism of a photo with the expressionism of painting.

Gardner is a photographer and painter, and has studied with Bert Seabourn, Clive R. Tyler and Poteet Victory. His works have been exhibited in Oklahoma City, Okla., at the In Your Eye Gallery, at Adelante! Gallery, and in the national juried show of the Oklahoma Art Guild.

A native of suburban Chicago, he now lives with his family in Demarest, N.J., where he paints out of his home studio.
