News Briefs... Town leaf pick up, Fire open house
DARIEN — The Darien Fire Department will host an open house on Sunday from 11 to 4 p.m. There will be a fire safety trailer, fire prevention activities, and face painting from noon to 2 p.m.
DARIEN — The Department of Public Works will pick up leaves according to the following schedule:
Pick-up 1: Oct. 30, north of railroad tracks, and Nov. 1, south of railroad tracks.
Pick-up 2: Nov. 13, north of railroad tracks, and Nov. 15, south of railroad tracks.
Pick-up 3: Nov. 27, north of railroad tracks, and Nov. 29, south of railroad tracks.
Leaves will only be picked up if bagged; bags must be marked “100 percent biodegradable” and made of paper. Leaves in plastic bags will not be collected. Bags must contain only leaves. Residents are not required to participate in the town leaf pick-up.
Dates listed are start dates. Bagged leaves should be at the curb by 7 a.m. on the first morning of the date listed. Once leaves have been collected, no return trips will be made until the next scheduled pick-up. Leaves will be collected on public roads only. Residents of private roads should make their own arrangements. Residents with proper permit may also dispose of leaves at the town Transfer Station.
