The American Red Cross Connecticut Chapter recently hosted its first Celebrate the Season event, An Autumn Affair, at Nielsen's Florist and Garden Shop in Darien.

Nearly 100 women from throughout lower Fairfield County kicked off the fall season with gourmet fare provided by Michael Joseph's Catering while sipping the evening's signature drink, a Triple Eight Nantucket Lemonade, donated by Glen Liquors and Fine Wines.

Helen Ainson provided guests with a showing of the latest fall fashions. Event speaker, Melanie Sabelhau, former Darien resident and current vice chairman of the American Red Cross national board of governors, challenged the group of women to create a powerful network and work with the Red Cross to make a difference in the local community and beyond.

The event committee included Darien residents Sandy Nielsen Baumann, Ronnie Carey, Anne Geissinger, Penny Glassmeyer, Emily Lyons, Donna Rohs and Marion Weatherstone, led by co-chairmen Betsy Becker and Susan Ozanne. Event underwriting was provided by Ameriprise Financial Services, Blackrock and Wells Fargo. Media sponsor was Serendipity Magazine. Raffle prizes were donated by Beadz Boutique, Everything is Rosey, Helen Ainson, Nielsen's Florist & Garden Center and Serendipity Magazine. For the event's door prize, BMW of Darien donated a BMW Cruise Bike.
