DARIEN — Police charged a 29-year-old man from Norwalk with drunk driving after he did not stop at a stop sign while exiting Interstate 95.
On March 3 around 12:45 a.m., a Darien officer saw a pickup truck take the Exit 12 ramp and turn right onto Tokeneke Road, ignoring the stop sign. After the vehicle swerved over the double yellow line, the officer stopped the driver, Michael F. Soltes, near Harriet Lane.
The officer smelled alcohol coming from Soltes and the inside of the truck. Soltes’ eyes were glassy and his speech was slurred. He told the officer he’d had two drinks while in Stamford. Soltes, of Sycamore Street, Norwalk, failed a field sobriety test and was charged with drunk driving and failure to obey a stop sign.
Soltes declined the chance to contact an attorney, as well as a breath test. He posted a $300 cash bond and was given a court date of March 13. The 2011 Ford F350 he was driving was towed from the scene.
