The Darien Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of programs for the residents of Darien. Registrater at www.

Tennis Court reservation system

Requests will now be accepted from Darien individuals and Darien not-for-profit groups to reserve courts in blocks of time for play. Daily reservations are no longer accepted; courts not reserved by block request will be available to residents on a first-come, first-serve basis. Block requests will be accepted through March 25. Requests will be drawn via lottery system.

Park permits

The Darien Parks and Recreation Department is selling 2011 park permits and boat launch stickers. These permit stickers allow entrance into Weed and Pear Tree Point Beaches and are available to Darien residents and taxpayers. Stickers are available at the Darien Town Hall, Room 110 or may be purchased online. 2010 stickers are valid through Tuesday, May 31. Beach security guards will be on duty starting Monday, April 18 at Weed Beach and Friday, May 27 at Pear Tree Point Beach. A valid permit is required for entrance.

Youth programs

Animation Moviemaker: Working in teams, students do it all, from story creation to making the characters and building the sets. Their final masterpiece will be copied onto a CD. Classes meet each Monday in Room 119 of Town Hall March 7 to 28 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. for children 8 to 12. The fee is $115.

Adult programs

Safe Boating Classes: Connecticut Safe Boating comes offers this eight-and-a-half hour course that will meet the requirements to obtain a Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate. This class will meet on Tuesday, March 29, and Thursday, March 31 from 6 to 10:15 p.m. at the Darien Town Hall. The fee for this program is $115 per person. Pre-registration is required.
