Philomena "Fannie" Grimaldi Pugliese died Feb. 16 at BrideBrook Health facility in Niantic, Conn., two days before her 98th birthday.

Born in Stamford in 1913, she was the daughter of Gaetano and Catherine Cassone Grimaldi. She was the oldest of four children.

As a young woman, Mrs. Pugliese worked as a seamstress in Stamford, and married Michael Pugliese in 1938. They had four children: Lucille Frechette of Niantic; Michele Mastrolillo of Old Saybrook; Carol Pugliese of Provincetown, Mass.; and James Pugliese of Darien.

After moving to Middletown in the 1960s, Mr. and Mrs. Pugliese retired to Winter Park, Fla.

Survivors include her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sisters Nancy Fitzgerald of Stamford, Victoria Oliva of Winter Park, and her brother, Anthony, of Westport.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien, on Saturday, Feb. 26, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. A Catholic Mass will follow at 10 a.m. St. Maurice Church, 358 Glenbrook Road in Stamford, with interment to follow at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery in Stamford.
