Alleged assault

UPDATE: According to the state's attorney, the case against Alberto Washington was dismissed.

A Stamford man was arrested for allegedly hitting his Darien girlfriend after an argument at her residence, according to Darien Police Detective Mark Cappelli.

Alberto Washington, 38, of Glenbrook Road, Stamford, is charged with two counts of third-degree assault, interfering with a 911 call, and unlawful restraint, Cappelli said.

A 41-year-old Darien woman reported the alleged assault at 11:49 p.m. on Saturday Aug. 1, Cappelli said. The woman said a conversation about an upcoming party turned into an argument, Cappelli said.

After going out for the evening, the argument flared again when the couple returned to her residence, Cappelli said.

Washington allegedly grabbed the woman by the neck, pushed her onto the bed and blocked her from leaving her bedroom, Cappelli said. Washington also allegedly tossed her cell phone when she attempted to use it to call police, Cappelli said.

Washington was released on $25,000 bond and was to appear in state Superior Court in Stamford, according to Cappelli.
