Darien police are investigating a daytime burglary on Talmadge Hill Road Oct. 21 near New Canaan in connection with similar break-ins there and in Norwalk, Darien Police Sgt. Jeremiah Marron said.

Police detected the unreported burglary at 2 Talmadge Hill Road when an off-duty Darien officer spotted a gray car matching the description of a vehicle sought in a Norwalk burglary, Marron said. An occupant of the car jettisoned a lockable safe which contained papers leading police back to the home, Marron said.

At the home police found the interior garage door forced open and the outer garage door partially open, Marron said. The homeowner told police the thieves stole a stereo system from the house as well as costume jewelry and the safe from the first floor master bedroom, Marron said.

Important paperwork was missing from the recovered safe, but the homeowner said the stereo and jewelry were not of substantial value, Marron said.

New Canaan Police also responded to a daytime burglary on Snowberry Lane the same day which they believe might be linked to a series of other daytime break-ins earlier in the month on Carter Street and Beech and Middle Ridge roads.
