Program on young athletes' health at Darien Library
A program on health and safety issues for young athletes will be presented Tuesday at the Darien Library.
The 7 p.m. presentation is co-sponsored by YWCA Parent Awareness. Topics, according to publicity for the event, will include how prevalent injuries occur; if and when a child should focus on one sport; what foods are most beneficial for maximum athletic performance and alternative treatments for pain. It will take place in the community room of the library, 1441 Post Road.
The program will feature a panel of physicians and specialists from the Stamford Hospital Orthopedic and Spine Institute, including Dr. Daniel Zelazny, assistant professor of Orthopedic Surgery at New York Medical College and orthopedic surgeon at Westchester Medical Center, Stamford Hospital and Phelps Memorial Hospital; Gavin Pritchard, outpatient registered dietitian with Population Health and Prevention at Stamford Hospital; Rebecca Petersen, motion analysis program coordinator at the Orthopedic and Spine Institute at Chelsea Piers and a certified athletic trainer, and Dr. Jennifer Cohn, fellow at the Center for Integrative Medicine and Wellness.
