Registration begins for fall programs at Darien Arts Center
Registration for fall classes in a variety of programs at the Darien Arts Center is underway.
Fall classes are offered for all age groups from preschoolers to adults.
Musical Theatre Singing for Middle and High School includes vocal techniques such as phrasing, breathing and tone production, song preparation and audition preparation. Middle school students meet at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday and high school students at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Introduction to African Drumming is for grades 3 to 5. Children will learn the basics of African drumming on the djembe while gaining basic rhythmic reading skills and learning musical terminology. Students will develop vocal work, leadership, teamwork and the skills to listen and focus. Classes meet at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Acting Techniques is for grades 3 to 8. Improvisation and storytelling combines spontaneity with using the structure of a story. The class provides a clearer understanding of communication in a creative experience with the benefit of increased confidence. Grades 3 to 5 meet Thursday at 4 p.m. and grades 6 to 8 meet Thursday at 5 p.m.
Musical Theatre Scenes and Songs is for grades 4 to 6 and focuses on analyzing the lyrics of popular Broadway songs and putting the proper emotion to them through scene work. The class will meet Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.
Click! Digital Photography is for grade 1 to 8. Children will learn to use a digital camera, iPhone or iPod touch to take photos. Photography basics covered include the rule of thirds, filling the frame and negative space. Art concepts of color, texture and scale will also be discussed. Grades 1 to 4 meet Friday at 4:40 p.m. and grades 5 to 8 meet Friday at 5:45 p.m.
Artist Open Studio is open to adult artists. A monitor will be available to assist with critiques and using equipment such as DAC printing presses. It is not necessary to be enrolled in DAC classes. The studio will be open Tuesday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Drawing: Looking Closer is for ages 10 to 15 and will teach technical drawing skills and encourage creativity. Students will draw still-life objects, figures, landscapes and portraits, as well as images from their imagination. All levels are welcome. The class will meet Wednesday at 4:45 p.m.
Kinder-Jazz/Hip Hop is for kindergartners and introduces them to jazz and hip-hop techniques to build skills and learn new dances while having fun. The class will meet Tuesday or Friday at 4 p.m.
Tap 1 is for grades 1 to 3 and introduces them to tap rhythms and basic steps. Tap shoes required. The class will meet at 5 p.m. Mondays
Modern Jazz 2/3 is for grades 3 to 6 and combines modern and jazz techniques. The class will meet at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday.
Adult Ballet will include a thorough barre, center floo, and a well-balanced combination in a relaxed and positive atmosphere. The class will meet Monday at 9:45 a.m., Wednesday at 10 a.m. or Friday at 10 a.m.
Adult Tap is a multi-level class with fun music and a friendly atmosphere. It will meet at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday. Danceabilities is a creative movement class designed for children with disabilities. The class provides a supportive learning environment for children to explore the world of dance by using classical ballet, tap and modern techniques, specifically adapted to the varying capabilities of the students. Taught by a teacher and a physical therapist with assistants to help each child. Six-week sessions start in October. For information, contact Bonnie Gombos at 203-655-8383 or email@example.com.
