Registration open for DAC winter/spring courses
DARIEN — Registration for more than 70 winter and spring classes at the Darien Arts Center is open now. Dance, visual arts, music, theater and martial arts classes are available for children of all ages, while adults can select courses in ballet, tap, watercolor painting and martial arts.
Children’s dance classes include dancing for beginners, junior hip hop, early ballet classes and early jazz/hip hop courses. Children’s visual arts include courses on cartooning, photography and painting/drawing. Music courses are offered in group and private instruction. Theater courses cover everything from beginning acting to scene work.

Dance: Classes begin Jan. 23, 2017. $305, $35 annual registration fee.
Dance Beginnings - ages 3 & 4, for preschoolers to learn about dance and the joy of movement through body awareness and creativity.
Jr. Hip Hop - ages 4 & 5. a fun introduction to hip hop dance for boys and girls using lively music to build age appropriate skills.
Pre-Ballet - ages 4 & 5, Thurs., a fun introduction to ballet using imaginative techniques to learn classical elements including floor and center work.
Kinderballet - Kindergarten, a continuation of Pre-Ballet for the kindergartener.
Kinder-Jazz/Hip Hop - Kindergarten, a fun introduction to jazz & hip hop techniques using lively pop music to build skills & have fun learning new dances.
Martial Arts - all ages, classes begin Jan. 23, designed to develop skills, coordination, self-defense and awareness. $305, $30 uniform fee, $35 annual registration fee.
Scribble Scrabble - ages 3-5, Fri., 1:10-1:55 p.m., Jan. 13-Mar. 31, young learners will develop fine motor skills while creating paintings, collages and prints. $200, $35 annual registration fee.
Elementary Art Studio - ages 7-12, Wed., 3:40-4:40 p.m., Feb 8-May 24, experiment with line, color, texture, form and a variety of media: pastels, watercolors, acrylics and ink. $280, $35 annual registration fee.
Cartooning - ages 7-12, Mon., 4:10-5:10 p.m., Feb. 6-May 22, study facial expressions and body language to design characters for use in cartoons and comic strips. $280, $35 annual registration fee.
Click! Digital Photography - ages 9-12, Fri., 4:40-5:40 p.m., Feb. 10-June 2, use a digital camera, iPhone or iPod to take photos using basics like the rule of thirds, filling the frame, and negative space. $280, $35 annual registration fee.
Drawing/Painting - ages 10-15, Wed., 5:00-6:30 p.m., Jan. 4-Mar. 15, advance drawing and painting skills using line, shape, color, texture and pattern. $300, $35 annual registration fee.
Private and Group Instruction - Contact Music Director, Juanita Bosee at Juanita@darienarts.org for available classes in piano, drums, flute, violin, saxophone, cello, guitar, voice and composition. Classes begin on Jan. 3, but may be prorated.
Creative Dramatics - ages 3-5,Fridays, 2:45-3:45 p.m., Feb. 3-May 5, young children are introduced to theatre with games, rhymes, costumes, puppets and more to discover the magic of performing. $220, $35 annual registration fee.
Beginning Acting - grades K-2, Tues. 3:50-4:50 p.m., Jan. 31-May 9, a class where play and story are joined; children will work in a group in a non-stressful and encouraging atmosphere, developing methods of expression and awareness. $245, $35 annual registration fee.
Actor’s Toolbox - grades 3-5, Thurs., 3:50-4:50 p.m., Feb. 2-May 11, this class gets the young actor up and doing with short skits, stage movement, use of props and costumes. Last class is a showcase for family and caregivers. $245, $35 annual registration fee.
Scenework - grades 5-8, Thurs., 5-6:30 p.m., Jan. 26-Mar. 16, a fun, fast-paced performance class using short skits and improv. $170, $35 annual registration fee.
Ballet, Tap, and Martial Arts - $20 drop-in fee, 10-class card for $160, one-time $35 annual registration fee.
Watercolor Painting - Mon., 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Jan. 30-April 17, all levels of ability. $385, $35 annual registration fee.
Adults can sign up for ballet, tap and watercolor painting, among other course selections.
