Resident billed for phantom items
A Leroy Avenue resident reported to police Aug. 13 that she had an outstanding balance of $2,333.77 on a Bill Me Later statement for merchandise she did not order.
Police said this is not the first Bill Me Later fraud report, a service that can be used to pay for online purchases. Police said the account was likely made by using the resident's name, social security number, birthday and a fake email address. The resident did not make any purchases using the service, according to the report.
