Robert Dodd, 64, of Rowayton, was charged with third-degree assault, breach of peace and driving while intoxicated Friday, Feb. 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot at Rory's Restaurant, 416 Post Road.
According to police, Dodd drove a 2003 Infiniti SUV into the restaurant's parking lot, striking a parked 2008 BMW, and damaging the left rear quarter panel. A restaurant patron witnessed the accident, according to police. The owner of the BMW attempted to exchange insurance information with Dodd, but Dodd denied being involved in an accident, police said. The witness told police Dodd was unable to stand or walk without assistance and appeared to be intoxicated.
The BMW's owner and the witness then told Dodd to park his car so they could find him an alternate way home, but Dodd became belligerent, police said. Dodd then struck the witness in the face, causing a bloody nose, police said. The witness then called 911 to report the assault.
Dodd failed his field sobriety test and refused a Breathalyzer test, police said. He posted a $500 bond, and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, March 1.
