Members of Norwalk River Rowing Association's Youth Racing and Master Rowers teams are participating in an Ergathon on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Darien Sport Shop, 1127 Post Road, to raise money for the Matthew Zucker Memorial Fund.

The Ergathon will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Two other locations also will be participating, Stop & Shop at 380 Main Ave. in Norwalk and at 5 River Road in Wilton.

Barbara and Mark Zucker established the fund in memory of their son, Matthew, an avid rower and NRRA athlete, who lost his battle with brain cancer just before his high school graduation in 1998.

The fund provides scholarships to young people who otherwise could not afford to learn to row or to discover the same self-confidence, self-discipline and love of rowing that Matthew did.

For the past 15 years, members of NRRA's Youth Racing and Masters teams have raised money through the Ergathon, in which each athlete rows 10 kilometers on an erg machine and receives pledges and donations for their efforts. The goal is to row a combined 1 million meters.
