DARIEN — Police are investigating reports of a Darien boy approached by an elderly woman while walking home from school on Pasture Lane on Sept. 26.

The 11-year-old boy was halfway home when approached by a woman in a green SUV. The elderly woman asked the boy if he needed a ride home to which he said “No, thank you.” She then asked the boy if he lived on the street. The boy did not answer and proceeded to follow his usual route home. As he cut through his neighbor’s yard, he observed the vehicle proceed down Pasture Lane. The operator of the vehicle did not attempt to follow or find the boy, nor did she try to entice him to enter the vehicle.

Police said that the vehicle the woman was driving was a small, green sport utility vehicle. The boy said the vehicle was an older model and had many scratches and dents. The vehicle may have had a Quinnipiac University Bobcats bumper sticker.

According to the boy’s mother, the operator of the SUV was a white woman in her seventies with short white hair. The woman was alone in the vehicle. The boy could not recall any more physical characteristics of the driver.

Police canvassed the neighborhood around 2:45 p.m. and could not find the vehicle. The incident is under investigation.
