Darien Library is here to help residents and patrons as they prepare their tax paperwork for 2012.

The library announces a free, full-service AARP/IRS Volunteer Tax Assistance Program, with special attention to seniors and moderate- to low-income households. Darien Library will offer tax preparation and electronic filing of both state and federal taxes every Friday from Feb. 3 through April 13.

The services will be available for patrons between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on each Friday. While services are offered for walk-ins, if you wish to pre-arrange an appointment, you can do so by calling 203-6669-5257.

When the library offered the service for the first time in 2011, almost 100 returns were prepared and filed through the program, which is co-sponsored by the AARP, resulting in more than $50,000 in refunds for local residents. This year, more residents than ever may qualify for tax credits, particularly the newly instated Earned Income Credit for Connecticut.
