Jonathan Russell, 19, of Shelton, was arrested for possession of marijuana, providing alcohol to a minor, having weapons in a vehicle, an improper turn and driving with a suspended license Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 1:46 a.m.
Due to the recent increase in vehicle thefts, police have been sweeping neighborhoods in an unmarked police car. An officer said he saw Russell driving a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire on Hollow Tree Ridge Road; he then stopped at Linden Avenue, drove onto Gardiner Street and turned into a driveway and shut his lights off.
The officer pulled Russell over, who appeared nervous, according to police. He and his 17-year-old female passenger were from Shelton, and, according to police, had no reason to be in the area and looked to be engaged in suspicious activity. Russell said he was dropping his girlfriend off at home in Stamford; however, she lives in Shelton.
Police said the pair's actions could be a possible connection to the items recently recovered in Shelton from the Miles road car burglaries.
