DARIEN — Tires, rims and a new car were all stolen out of H&L Chevrolet’s lot on the Post Road.

An employee discovered the padlock on the front gate of the lot dislodged Saturday morning, police said. The gate was still shut, but the employee found tires and rims missing from six 2017 Chevrolets, including the Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado models. Police were called to investigate, at which point they found a white 2017 Chevrolet Express had also been taken from the lot.

Police said the suspects appeared to have entered the lot through the back of the dealership and used a ladder from a nearby gardening center to climb over the fence. The suspects then may have used the stolen car to remove the parts from the lot. The incident is believed to have occurred sometime between 6:05 p.m. on Jan. 20 and 7:38 a.m. on Jan. 21. There was no evidence indicating the suspects entered the dealership building or showroom.

In total, 24 22-inch tires and rims were stolen. Each was valued around $1,000, leading to a total loss of about $24,000.

The car stolen was worth around $28,500. Police entered the dealership plate number of the vehicle into the National Crime Information Center and are checking other neighborhood establishments for possible surveillance footage of the incident.

Police noted the dealership had a similar incident in August when 16 tires and rims valued — around $13,000 — were stolen from the lot. It is unclear if the two incidents are connected.
