Two killed while changing tire on I-95 in Darien
State Police are investigating a three-vehicle crash in which a Bethel man and a Stamford man were killed early Saturday morning on Interstate 95 southbound in Darien.
According to police, Filipe Chagas, 19, of Roberts Place in Bethel and Lucas Silva, 22, of Colonial Drive in Stamford, were changing a flat tire on a car parked in the right shoulder, south of Exit 11, shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
The were standing to the left rear of the car, a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier, when they were struck by a 2003 Lincoln Aviator driven by Candice Blanks, 39, of Bedford Street in Stamford, who was traveling in the right lane.
She also reportedly hit the Cavalier and a 2002 Volkswagen Passat that was also parked on the right shoulder of 95.
Blanks reportedly fled the scene of the accident after hitting the two men, who died from their injuries.
Following a broadcast by state police, Darien Police found Blanks on I-95 north of exit 10 in Darien.
She was arrested for two counts of vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, failure to maintain lane and evading responsibility with death. She is being held on a $250,000 bond.
