Mark Breslin, 62, of 7 Apple Tree Lane, Stamford, was arrested March 25 on charges of driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to obey the signal of an officer, a failure to renew registration.
At 11:30 p.m., police received a call from someone who reported seeing a 2003 blue Chrysler Town and Country driving the wrong direction on the Post Road. The caller told police that the motorist attempted to drive onto I-95 south, but went the wrong way on the ramp before turning around and going back onto the Post Road, according to the report.
The minivan then entered the parking lot of MINI of Fairfield County, 154 Post Road, and struck one of the cars in the lot, police said. The car then left the lot and entered I-95 south.
Officers entered I-95 south from two different entrance ramps and located Breslin driving near exit 10, the report stated. When officers attempted to pull him over, Breslin continued to drive, police said. He eventually stopped just past the entrance to the rest stop.
Police reported that Breslin was unsteady on his feet as he exited his car, smelled of alcohol and said he was going home.
He told police he wasn't aware he hit a car in the dealership parking lot, but he admitted to drinking alcohol, according to the report. Breslin told police that he drank beer throughout the course of the night at a Black Rock bar.
Breslin only attempted one field sobriety test -- the walk and turn test -- but stumbled backward and to the side before steadying himself on his car, police said. No further tests were administered for his safety's sake, police said.
According to the report, Breslin appeared confused after being arrested and questioned why he was in handcuffs. Once at Darien police headquarters, he refused to take the Breathalyzer test, police said.
He was held in lieu of $500 bond and was scheduled to appear in court March 26.
