YMCA to unveil rock climbing wall
The Darien YMCA will unveil its new rocking climbing wall during the Community Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The free event will include boat rides on the Y's catamarans and canoes, a musician, bounce houses, a magician, free fitness classes and contests, chair massages and healthy treats.
The rock climbing wall will be open for members' use starting Monday, Sept. 16. However, it will be open to the public during the open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
More than 1,000 people attended the open house in 2012 that celebrated the grand reopening of the Darien YMCA after the renovation was completed. The renovation included a state-of-the art gymnastics center, a new Holly Pond Nursery School building, updated adult locker rooms, refurbished adult fitness training center and the installation of cogeneration systems powered by natural gas that significantly reduce the Y's energy consumption, environmental impact and carbon footprint.
"Our Second Annual Community Open House is a great way for us to celebrate all that the Darien Y has to offer to the community and, more importantly, show the community all of the programs we offer," said Pat Morrissey, executive director of the Darien YMCA.
