All Darien residents should know about the Connecticut General Assembly legislative session that opened Feb. 8. Legislation will be introduced that will address the reliability of our power supply. We think this topic -- in light of the prolonged power outages caused by the August and October storms -- is one we should all be paying close attention to.

To inform Connecticut residents on all aspects of this continuing problem, the Tree Conservancy of Darien and the Darien League of Women Voters, along with eight other tree-focused alliances and Southern Fairfield County chapters of the League of Women Voters, will sponsor an educational forum, Power Struggle: Balancing the Needs of People, Power and Trees.

This timely forum will take place at Darien Town Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. The forum will provide a panel discussion, followed by a Q&A session. Panelists will include representatives from CL&P, the Governor's Two Storm Panel, the Public Utility Regulatory Authority, the Connecticut Forest and Park Association and Concord (Mass.) Municipal Light Plant.

The Feb. 28 forum will provide information and insight on the solutions proposed by your legislators in Hartford. Handouts will be available, including contact information of state officials. We encourage you to attend so you can learn about and influence the proposed solutions to these power outages.
