Carver Foundation fundraiser a success
More than 100 people gathered recently on a lovely summer evening at Rowayton Yacht Club to celebrate and support the Carver Foundation of Norwalk. Almost $20,000 was raised to help Carver fund its after-school programs, college tours and summer camp for Norwalk's youth, preparing them for a world that requires young adults to be literate, numerate, adaptable and trainable -- in a word -- educated.
The Carver Foundation is supported by more than 400 volunteers, who reach out to over 4,000 individuals in Norwalk through Carver's numerous programs.
Contributing to the success of the party was the delicious food donated by Atria Darien, prepared by Carrington Parker, food service director, and his team, and served by Linda Beckles, dining room manager, and her team. Special thanks to Atria Darien Executive Director Wendy Winnick-Baskin, who has been a great supporter of Carver for many years.
Guests were also treated to wine selections generously donated by Mark Ancona of Fountainhead Wines of East Norwalk. Thanks also to the board members of Rowayton Yacht Club, who could not have been more supportive in letting us have the party at their private club. We also thank the Bell Island Association for letting us use its lot for parking, and Brendan McGee for bringing the sound system for the evening.
Finally, a word of thanks to Mother Nature, who graciously allowed the sun to shine after many, many days of rain.
