Blue Wave girls volleyball improves to 6-0
Six games. Six wins. And still zero surrendered sets.
No opponent has been able to cool the Darien girls volleyball team through three weeks of the young 2014 season, as the Blue Wave has raced to a 6-0 start in three weeks. The latest Darien victim? The Trinity Catholic Crusaders, who entered Monday's eventual 0-3 defeat with an impressive 4-1 record. The Blue Wave pinned its host with early 25-13, 25-8 set wins and capped off the night in 25-18 fashion.
Senior captain Celia Martzolff recorded a game-high 34 assists, helping set up the 13-kill effort of fellow captain Claire Naughton. Junior Anna Barsanti picked up nine service points, five more than Leah Zarrilli and Elle Smyth of Trinity Catholic.
Darien will return to the court Wednesday at Stamford for a 3 p.m. game with the Black Knights. This weekend, the Blue Wave is scheduled to travel to John Jay, N.Y. for a tournament. The team's next home game is this coming Monday against Fairfield Ludlowe, which knocked Darien out of last year's Class LL state tournament.
