The Darien boys cross country team opened its 2014 season Tuesday with wins over Central (15-50), Harding (15-50), Trumbull (20-37) and McMahon (21-40) at Beardsley Zoo Park in Bridgeport. The Blue Wave, ranked No. 5 in Connecticut, was paced by senior Alex Ostberg. Ostberg covered the 2.8 mile course in 14:59, the best time of any competing runner.

Finishing second was junior Armstrong Noonan at 15:08. Darien went on to claim three more spots in the top 10, including Arthur Cassidy (sixth, 16:06), Brendan Triano (eighth, 16:48) and Jack Consolini (ninth, 16:50).

Jack Murray (11th, 16:53) and James Johnson (14th, 17:22) rounded out the Wave's lineup in the race.

"This was a good first meet for us," Darien coach Tyson Kaczmarek said. "We have had a busy first three weeks and accomplished most of what we set out to do. Today was a good stepping stone for us in terms of the entire season."

Darien is 4-0 and will return to the course on Tuesday at Wilton to race against the Warriors, Westhill, Fairfield Ludlowe and Bassick.
